Department Profile:

 The Building Construction Science program at Mississippi State University aims to produce innovative collaborative leaders in the construction management profession through an immersive, collaborative, and interdisciplinary educational environment. The program's studio-based curriculum, one of only two studio-based construction programs in the US, combined with its position in the College of Architecture, Art, and Design, provides a learning environment for active engagement with multiple disciplines in hands-on problem-solving experiences in the built environment. The interdisciplinary curriculum provides a broad knowledge and experience base in construction science, architecture, engineering, business, and related fields to prepare students for successful, effective, collaborative careers. The program includes over 120 undergraduate students with a nearly 100% employment rate upon graduation. We are currently in candidate status for ACCE accreditation, have an active industry advisory board, and continue to expand our industry ties. Program faculty members are active in a variety of research areas, involved in student competitions, and participate in university, local, regional, national, and international committees and organizations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 Essential duties and responsibilities of the Director are to:
•    Lead, manage, and administer all aspects of the Building Construction Science Program including curriculum and program development, recruitment and retention, human resources, physical resources, and fiscal resources.
•    Foster collegiality, build consensus, and articulate and promote the Program's goals and interests.
•    Lead the program in preparation for accreditation.
•    Work with the Office of the Dean, the Office of Research and Economic Development, and the MSU Foundation to increase private and institutional support for research, facilities, scholarships, endowments, and advancement.
•    Develop and maintain University and community relationships and outreach.
•    Continue individual research/creative achievement at the national and/or international level.

Duties shall include those outlined in the job description and other such duties, including teaching, as mutually agreed upon with the Dean of the College.

As an employee, the Director is expected to comply with all federal and state laws, all policies of the Board of Trustees, and all University policies.

The Director of the Building Construction Science Program reports to and serves at the pleasure of the Dean of the College of Architecture, Art, and Design. This appointment is subject to approval by the University President.

The successful candidate is expected to begin employment on or before July 1, 2017.

Minimum Qualifications:

 The candidate must hold a Master's Degree in Construction Management/Science or a closely related field and must have university teaching and administrative experience and relevant professional construction industry experience.

The candidate's vita must demonstrate scholarship, academic achievement, and the energy and intellect to work collaboratively with the faculty to develop a challenging and compelling vision of construction education, particularly in the area of studio-inquiry and problem-based instructional pedagogies.

The candidate must have received tenure and be eligible for or demonstrate sufficient academic accomplishment to quality for appointment at the Professor level with tenure.

Preferred Qualifications:

 PhD in construction management or in construction science or in a closely related field is preferred (although only a preferred qualification, candidates who are "all but dissertation" (ABD) at the time of application should have received their PhD prior to the position start date.)

Professional registration and/or certification in construction or a closely related field is also preferred.
