The department (www.comm.msstate.edu) is one of the largest on campus. Approximately 600 majors are in concentrations of Broadcasting, Communication Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, and Theatre. Students may choose concentrations in more than one area, and minors are offered in each concentration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the activities below. The successful candidates will teach Broadcasting and related courses, including a combination of Television Production, Advanced Television Production, News Writing for Electronic Media, Writing for the Media, Digital Communication, Practicum in Television News, and Broadcast Performance. In addition, at least one of the positions requires the ability to lead students in production of a 30-minute live news program as part of the Practicum in Television News course. Hands-on experience with the latest software and equipment is essential for both positions.
The successful candidates will have a 4/4 course load (or equivalent duties) for fall and spring semesters. Summer teaching is often available, but is not guaranteed. The successful candidates will assist with the continuing development of curriculum in the Broadcasting concentration and lead in the overall enhancement of the evolving program.
A Master's degree is required. However, consideration will be given to someone with a Bachelor’s degree and substantial professional experience in the broadcast industry in the areas listed below.
1) Reporting and producing
2) Broadcast production
3) Web-based journalism
4) Creative Cloud or equivalent knowledge
5) Non-linear video editing
ABDs or degree pending considered (all but DISS):
The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in Broadcasting, Digital Journalism, or similar area and prior collegiate teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidates must have a thorough knowledge of the field and a willingness to participate collegially in a broad department. Colleagues must be able to communicate that knowledge in the classroom environment to students as well as to other important groups through scholarship and service. Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
The successful candidates must be able to teach in a classroom setting, work in a studio, and conduct service in the profession.
