Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Learn about various sensor systems for small and medium-sized unmanned aerial systems (UASs).
2. Share knowledge with others in group as appropriate.
3. Participate in discussions and planning meetings to discuss what sensor to procure and/or use for various missions.
4. Participate in discussions and planning meetings to discuss operational implications of various sensors.
5. Responsible for assuring quality data collections and for transferring data from sensor systems to short-term and/or long-term storage.
6. Assist with or lead, as appropriate, data processing tasks that would come early in a workflow that is focused on providing solutions to and information about natural processes, built structures, agriculture, natural resources, forests, beaches, marshes, etc.
7. Support the multi-disciplinary team in other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

US Citizen (required to access necessary information for some sensor systems)
B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
Computer literate and experienced with common word processing and office applications.
Knowledge of how electrical systems and sensor systems work.
Knowledge of image formation and image processing techniques

Level of appointment (Research I, II, or III) is commensurate with qualifications and experience:

Research Engineer I - B.S. in engineering or computer science; Less than one year in a related area.

Research Engineer II - B.S. in engineering or computer science; Two years of professional experience in a related area; Requires two years at previous level or equivalent.

Research Engineer III - B.S. in engineering or computer science; Four years of professional experience in a related area; Requires two years at previous level or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated knowledge of multiple-types (EO, NIR, SWIR, LWIR, lidar, radar, sonar) sensor systems.
Demonstrated proficiency with C, C++, markup languages, and/or Python.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

•No or very limited physical effort required.
•No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
•Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
•Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
•No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
•Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
