Salary Grade/Salary Minimum:
This position will be housed in the Coastal Research and Extension Center in Biloxi, MS
Area of Specialization:
Marine Fisheries and Fisheries-independent Monitoring
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Organize meetings for coastal end-users and prepare outreach and extension materials focused on marine fisheries. Collect field samples such as plants, animals, soils, water, etc., and prepare for laboratory analysis. Order and maintain supplies and materials. Solicit bids from contractors. Gather, compile, and summarize data. Set up tables and graphs and assist in statistical analysis. Write Extension and journal publications. Manage project budgets. May perform literature searches. Search and apply for external grants. May use computer to maintain data and prepare reports. Assist in preparing materials for teaching purposes. Perform related duties as assigned.
Extension, outreach, education, and project management experience. Familiarity with Gulf of Mexico marine fisheries and fisheries-independent monitoring techniques. Bachelor degree with major course work in a curriculum appropriate for the field of assignment and two years of post-secondary training in a curriculum appropriate for the field of assignment.
Two-years experience with offshore shark and ray sampling techniques in the northern Gulf of Mexico.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge and skills in using Microsoft Office Suites especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
1. Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
2. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
