Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manages University Archives, including developing and promoting University records management policies and procedures;
  • Accessions and processes University materials;
  • Manages books, periodicals, serials and vertical files;
  • Provides reference service for University Archives, and shares general reference duties with other Special Collections faculty and staff;
  • Serves as a Library liaison/subject bibliographer for special collections and assigned teaching department(s);
  • Participates in university and library-wide committees as assigned and maintains a course of professional development through active participation in professional associations and/or other professional activities external to the Libraries;
  • Supervises support staff and Library Student Assistants in the division;
  • Coordinates the University Oral History program;
  • Meets library and university requirements for promotion and tenure in the areas of librarianship, research, service and collegiality.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program;
  • 3-5 years of relevant library/archives experience;

ABDs or degree pending considered (all but DISS):

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred:

  • Supervisory and management experience;
  • Familiarity with genealogy research;
  • Additional graduate degree;
  • Documented record of professional publication and presentation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with automated library systems; such as Archives Space
  • Working knowledge of relevant descriptive and encoding metadata standards: EAD, MARC, DACS, and Dublin Core
  • Knowledge of current archival standards and practices and evolving technologies;
  • Familiarity with current records management practices;
  • Familiarity with cataloging standards for special collections publications;
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills as well as effective interpersonal, collegial and communication skills (both oral and written);
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member;
  • Ability to set and adjust priorities and work flows in a dynamic and changing environment and accept new challenges in order to realize departmental and library goals;
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, faculty and staff in a complex and rapidly changing environment;
  • Familiarity with computers and Windows applications;
  • Demonstrates potential for meeting the requirements for promotion and tenure
