Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Design, program, implement, debug, and run programs on massively parallel machines at the MSU High Performance Computing Collaboratory.  The codes will relate to machine learning, both quantum and classical Boltzmann machines.  Will perform analysis of data obtained from the codes, and write progress reports and articles based on the research.

Minimum Qualifications:

A PhD in physics, or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

A background in parallelization and optimization of codes.  An excellent knowledge of quantum mechanics.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

An excellent background in computing, including being extremely familiar with at least one of the languages C, C++, Python, or Fortran.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

•No or very limited physical effort required.
•No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
•Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
•Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
•No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
•Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
