Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Incumbent will participate in all aspects of the Department of Sustainable Bioproducts research, teaching, and service programs. Incumbent will develop and conduct a program of research in forest- & bio-products / wood science and technology with an emphasis on research and development in wood durability, protection, and preservation. Additional emphasis may be placed on areas such as development and adoption of sustainable building products and practices, certification/certified wood products, CLT durability, imports and exports, and/or other means by which local, regional, and national firms improve economic competitiveness.
Incumbent will work closely with departmental stakeholders in an effort to develop and apply technologies that will improve their competitiveness with respect to wood protection and durability enhancement. Incumbent will be expected to build a nationally recognized and extramurally funded research program. Active collaborations within the department, college, and university as well as with external stakeholders such as industry, other universities, government and nongovernmental organizations, etc. are expected. Service and outreach will be pursued via a combination of activities at the university, professional associations, site visits, short courses and workshops, web-based communication, and written reports, etc. Incumbent will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, such as wood preservation and protection, and assist in programmatic student advising, curriculum development, and other departmental responsibilities as appropriate.
The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. at the time of appointment from an accredited institution of higher learning in either Wood Science / Forest- Bio-Products or an allied scientific discipline such as engineering, biology, microbiology, marketing, business, or other as appropriate.
The applicant must demonstrate strong communication skills and will be expected to develop a national reputation in sustainable bioproducts as well as maintain a focus on adding value to state- and regional based stakeholders.
Rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
ABDs or degree pending considered (all but DISS):
ABDs will be considered.
Two years of experience is preferred in forest products/sustainable bioproducts or a related field with respect to proposing; securing extramural funding; conducting, producing, and publishing applied and basic research results.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Incumbent should be adept with current forms of computer applications related to research, teaching, and service activities.
