Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• General instructional services
• Outreach to distance education faculty and students
• Working daily scheduled hours at a public service desk and on chat, including one evening each week and as part of a Sunday rotation schedule;
• Specialized and general research and information support face-to-face reference desk service, in one-on-one research consultations and virtually by mobile, chat, social media and mail;
• Serving as a Library liaison for assigned academic department(s);
• Preparing and maintaining research guides and tutorials;
• Serving in University and library-wide committees as appropriate;
• Professional development through active participation in professional associations and/or other professional activities external to the libraries;
• Conducting research/creative activities in accordance with the guidelines for promotion and tenure at the MSU Libraries;
•Performing other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

● Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program;
● Experience with providing library or course-related instruction;
● Familiarity with ACRL’s information literacy framework;
● Familiarity with virtual reference software and learning management systems;
● Strong organizational skills as well as effective interpersonal, collegial and communication/presentation skills (both oral and written);
● Experience in maintaining effective working relationships in a complex and rapidly changing environment, and able to accept new challenges in order to realize departmental and library goals;
● Commitment to professional development;
● Demonstrated potential for meeting the requirements for

ABDs or degree pending considered (all but DISS):


Preferred Qualifications:

• Additional masters' degree;
• One-two years of recent academic library experience;
• Proficiency with assessment methods and tools;
• Experience with instructional design and pedagogy.
