Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

-teaching a 3-2 course load over a 9 month contract (with the option of summer teaching, when available);
-advancing a research agenda with the potential for conference presentations, scholarly publications, and external funding; serving on doctoral dissertation committees;
-advising master’s and doctoral students;
-actively engaging in professional activities related to higher education research and practice at institutional, regional, national, and international levels;
-collaborating with campus stakeholders to create robust learning opportunities for linking theory and practice; and
-contribute positively to the welfare and enhancement of the university and the State of Mississippi through educational outreach efforts.

Minimum Qualifications:

Rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
-Doctoral degree reflecting scholarly inquiry specific to colleges and universities, university stakeholders, or higher education policy (ABD’s with a clear timeline for completion by Fall 2020 may be considered);
-Knowledge of scholarship and empirical research related to studies of higher education and/or student affairs;
-Openness to engaging varied instructional methods in the classroom (e.g., face-to-face, experiential, online, hybrid);
-A sustainable research agenda that addresses contemporary topics specific to higher education and/or student affairs scholarship with the potential for publications in professional journals, presentations at national/international conferences, and/or opportunities for external funding;
-The skills, knowledge, and experience necessary to serve on doctoral dissertation committees;
-Potential to fulfill the research, teaching, and service requirements for tenure and promotion as outlined in Mississippi State University’s Tenure and Promotion Guidelines;
-A desire to engage with a small, but dynamic, departmental team invested in the university’s mission of advancing access and opportunity for the state of Mississippi’s diverse population as well as student success on behalf of college students, broadly.

Preferred Qualifications:

-3-5 years professional experience working in higher education settings as an administrator, instructor, policymaker, or in other relevant leadership contexts;
-Scholarly interests in two or more of the following areas: student success; student development theory; diversity, inclusion, and social justice; assessment and evaluation; public policy; quantitative research methodologies; instruction and curriculum; organizational theory
-Academic and applied expertise in at least one research methodology;
-Understand the philosophical differences between practitioner preparation master’s programs in Student Affairs and research-focused doctoral programs in Higher Education and demonstrate flexibility required to teach courses in either area;
-Evidence of publications, research grants, and/or scholarly presentations related to higher education and/or student affairs;
-Successful teaching experience in a higher education and/or student affairs program;
-Active engagement in professional and scholarly organizations such as ASHE, AERA, ACPA, and/or NASPA.
