The National Strategic Planning & Analysis Research Center (NSPARC) at Mississippi State University invites applications for a Senior Programmer Analyst (JAVA). The successful candidate will assume lead analyst responsibilities and provide assessment and programming support to the analytic staff of an active university research center. This position requires designing, developing, coding, maintaining, and testing of database systems and application software, coordinating activities of junior staff members, and coordinating across units within the center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assume lead analyst role for small applications and assume subsystem responsibility for major application development projects. Coordinate programming activities and provide technical assistance to junior analytic staff members. Maintain a familiarity with the latest developments in information technology and make recommendations as appropriate. Evaluate and establish priorities to meet project and center goals. Work independently under overall project objectives and requirements. Code efficiently and adhere to established programming procedures and standards. Design, code, and test application software, as well as modify existing software to reflect changes in system requirements or hardware configuration per investigator or administrative requests. Prepare and maintain quality documentation to manage program development and revisions. Prepare and maintain instructions and user documentation for users/operators. Prepare test data and validate software for accuracy and modify programs to increase operating efficiency. Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or related area and a minimum of two years of experience with information systems, relational databases and object oriented programming or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated proficiency in one or more of the following languages: JAVA, C++, C#, Objective-C, Swift. Strong technical skills with JAVA and SQL in a web setting, consideration will be given to those that have experience with development of large scale information systems for governmental entities, experience with microservices architecture, and programming for distributed databases.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or related area and three years of experience with information systems, relational databases and object oriented programming or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
