To conduct research on the in ovo injection of nutritional supplements with an effort to improve growth performance and meat yield in broiler chickens.

Salary Grade:  UC

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

To conduct research in the areas described above that will be published in quality journals. Expectation of procuring extramural funding. Planning and conducting, interdependently, research projects. Laboratory management. Handling of animals. Analysis of gut morphometric, blood and tissue composition, advanced genomics, and data. Conducting immune function assays. Presentations of abstracts and data collections, as well as manuscript preparation.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in Poultry Science, Animal Science, Biochemistry, Immunology, Microbiology, or related fields, and at least 4 years of research experience concerning the in ovo injection of vitamins in broilers. Research experience of the applicant must include an associated publication/presentation record of the data from their research.

Preferred Qualifications:

Expertise in avian immunology, egg incubation management and in ovo nutrition research.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Prior knowledge in research and grant writing skills. Communication, creative leadership, congeniality, and the ability to work cooperatively among a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, industry and agency groups is essential in our department and university.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Exposure to dust and chicken dander is expected.
