Mississippi State University is seeking applications to fill a postdoctoral fellowship to conduct research related to food security, poverty alleviation, migration, and global and domestic conflict. We encourage applications from promising candidates from both the social, natural, and data sciences, especially candidates with demonstrated experience working on food security and development-related topics. Experience with big data, GIS and related geo-referenced spatial analysis, and machine learning is highly desirable.
The global refugee population is increasing rapidly, a direct result of high levels of food insecurity and armed conflict. It is imperative to understand how conflict and food insecurity are interconnected; what drives people to abandon their livelihoods and migrate; and how to prevent and mitigate the complex nexus between food insecurity, conflicts, and migration. Mississippi State University is examining these issues at global, regional, and local scales.
