This is a full-time position contingent on grant funding. Continuance will be dependent upon continued grant funds. The appointee will assist in evaluation of integrated vegetation management practices for Mississippi highway rights of way.

Salary Grade:  13

Mississippi State University is Mississippi's senior comprehensive land-grant institution and has the largest on-campus enrollment (>22,000) of the eight state institutions of higher learning. All components of the university have a strong commitment to teaching, research, and service. The Department of Plant and Soil Sciences has 31 on- and 26 off-campus faculty members engaged in teaching, research, and extension and/or service programs, most of who carry joint appointments. The programs are supported by state-of-the-art laboratories, equipment, and trained support and professional staff. The department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Agronomy, Horticulture, or Environmental Sciences in Agricultural Systems, with Master's or Doctoral graduate students concentrating in Agronomy, Horticulture, or Weed Science.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific duties include, but are not limited to: 1) evaluate integrated vegetation management practices, including herbicides in replicated roadside right of way plots; 2) collect data, complete statistical analysis and report summaries and publications; 3) provide suggestions for new products to add to the MDOT Approved Products List 4) equipment/supply inventory, maintenance and ordering; 5) supervision and training of undergraduate and graduate student labor; 6) be active participant at MVMA, NRVMA, SWSS, WSSA; 7) provide training in right of way pesticide applicator training; 8) other duties as assigned by supervisor. Some travel, including overnight stays will be necessary. Occasional weekend plant maintenance is required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Earned B.S. in agriculture with field experience in small plot design and research. Certification in UAV Night Flight Operations, Prescribed Burn, Mississippi Pesticide Applicators license. Computer literacy in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with the education and/or experience of the candidate.

Preferred Qualifications:

A farm background, or experience with farm and research equipment.
