The Mississippi State University Extension Service (MSU-ES) seeks to fill a 12-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor, in the Department of Sustainable Bioproducts. The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. in forest products, wood science, biomaterials, forestry, agricultural engineering, industrial technology, or a related field. This faculty member will have primary responsibility in timber conversion, lumber and products primary manufacturing/conversion, timber bridge and wood protection.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include: implement Extension educational programs in disciplines such as wood products manufacturing, wood protection, timber bridges, wood properties, and manufacturing safety. Additional responsibilities include: work closely with peers; develop a nationally recognized Extension program; build a nationally recognized and extramurally funded research program; collaborate with external stakeholders such as industry, other universities, government and nongovernmental organizations; generate and disseminate new scholarship; teach short courses as well as undergraduate and graduate courses as appropriate, advise students, assist in programmatic, curriculum development, and carry on other departmental responsibilities as appropriate. Successful applicants must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. from an accredited institution of higher learning in forest products, wood science, biomaterials, forestry, agricultural engineering, industrial technology, or a related field. Must demonstrate strong communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in implementing Extension, educational, outreach, and technical assistance programs related to forest resources and the forest products industry is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to conduct economic developments and educational activities in forest products; and knowledge of program delivery through multiple media avenues (internet,
interactive video, distance learning, etc.) are desirable.

Physical requirements will be consistent with those associated with the incumbent's research and service program.
