Position Function:

This position is responsible for directing, coordinating, and organizing the new student and parent Orientation program. The Director will also be responsible for supervising the Assistant Director of Orientation and Campus Events in the implementation of both fall and spring campus events, and spring, summer and fall Orientation sessions. The Director assumes primary responsibility for the Office of Orientation & Events. The Director will also be responsible for supervising two professional, one support staff, and one Graduate Assistant in the implementation of both fall and spring campus events, and spring, summer and fall Orientation sessions.

Salary Grade:  16

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for planning, scheduling, and implementing the Orientation programs.
2. Responsible for the selection, training, and supervision of the Orientation student staff.
3. Provides correspondence to potential and actual Orientation participants,
4. Maintains records of Orientation participants and expenditures.
5. Manages the operating budget for the Orientation program.
6. Participates in the development of operating goals and objectives for the unit.
7. Recommends, implements, and administers methods and procedures to enhance
8. Responsible for overseeing the Orientation Leaders class and staff development.
9. Participates in developing effective recruitment strategies.
10. Provides information to prospective students and their parents, and promotes the
11. Facilitates campus events.
12. Develops marketing plan for Orientation & campus recruitment events, in conjunction with
Recruitment and Marketing.
13. Prepares correspondence for prospective students.
14. Responds to mail and telephone inquiries.
15. Represents MSU at conferences, meetings, and other official programs.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree

Three years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent administrative, organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills, including experience in supervision

Well-developed interpersonal, teamwork, verbal and written communication skills

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

No unusual physical requirements. Requires limited lifting of files and records and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.
