The National Strategic Planning & Analysis Research Center (NSPARC) at Mississippi State University invites applications for a Programmer Analyst (JAVA). The successful candidate provides assessment and programming support to the analytic staff in modeling, designing, developing, coding, maintaining, and testing of modern, data-intensive, web-based software applications.

Salary Grade:  15

National Strategic Planning & Analysis Research Center (NSPARC) conducts research and creates customized solutions in areas of economic, workforce, business, and community development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Acquire knowledge of programming procedures and standards. Design, code, and test application software, as well as modify existing software to reflect changes in functional requirements. Code efficiently while adhering to established programming standards. Prepare and maintain quality documentation to manage program development and revisions. Prepare instructions and user documentation for users / operators. Modify programs to increase operating efficiency. Prepare test data and validate software for accuracy. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area from an accredited institution and one year of experience dealing with JAVA and Spring Framework, as well as knowledge of Git, Maven, JUnit, JSP, Hibernate, REST Interfaces, MVC Pattern, Eclipse, Jquery or Angular, HTML 5, CSS3, and SQL. iOS and Android development experience is a plus. Successful candidates will have a good attention to detail, a desire to build good products for users, and a willingness to learn new technologies.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• Programmers work together using a modified Scrum methodology.
• Programmers have opportunities to earn certifications in Java and other technologies.
• Programmers have the opportunity work on the entire application stack from frontend to database persistence and search indexing.
• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
• No or very limited physical effort required.
