Staff physicians at Mississippi State University provide day-to-day care to university students and others authorized to receive care at the Student Health Center, and work with technologists, nurses, physical therapists, and other ancillary personnel. Specific activities include acute and chronic care of medical problems, appropriate preventative evaluations and interventions, and care of athletic injuries of the university. Staff physicians share medical call with the Director. The staff physicians perform administrative functions within the Student Health Center as assigned by the Director. They also lend their expertise to ad hoc committees and to standing committees of the university when assigned to these committees by the President of the university or the appropriate Vice-President.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide counseling and care to students, employees of Mississippi State University, and their families regarding medical problems.
2. Provide ongoing medical care to the varsity and intramural athletes at Mississippi State University.
3. Perform preventative medicine evaluations as dictated by the needs of the students, faculty, and staff at Mississippi State University.
4. Assist the Health Educator in providing outreach activities on the university campus.
5. Perform administrative duties as assigned by the Director of the Student Health Center.
6. Maintain hospital privileges and fulfill commensurate staff responsibilities at Oktibbeha County Hospital.
7. Counsel with and maintain liaison with counselors at the Mississippi State University Counseling Center.
8. Share and share alike medical call with other staff physicians and the Director.
9. Be available for and share alike responsibility for any crowd medical coverage on the university campus.
10. Be available for consultation and assistance regarding any human research projects undertaken on the Mississippi State University campus.
11. Be available for and accept appointment to any activities or committees involving occupational health, sanitation, and medical hazards that may arise on the university campus.
12. Fulfill continuing education requirements of the primary care field through correspondence course or seminary/short course attendance.

Minimum Qualifications:

M.D. or D.O. degree, board certified or board eligible (BC/BE) in a primary care field
Eligible for Mississippi license.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in college health or adolescent medicine
• Commitment to a wellness approach to medicine
• Have flexibility and tolerance in medical care.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Those commensurate with having obtained the Minimum Necessary Qualifications listed above

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. No or very limited physical effort required.
2. No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
3. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
4. Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or
pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than
70%) of job.
5. No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
6. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme
temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
