The Sr. Virtualization Engineer (Team Leader) will be responsible for overseeing the engineering, support, and maintenance of the MSU Secure Research Enclave. This position will be responsible for managing all resources and personnel associated with the MSU Secure Research Enclave. Additionally, this position will be responsible for ensuring that the MSU Secure Research Enclave maintains compliance with various federal cybersecurity requirements including, but not limited to, NIST SP 800-171 and the Department of Defense’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Manage hardware and software lifecycle including: purchasing, imaging, configuring, installing software, maintenance, and disposal
2. Manage projects including: analyzing requirements, project planning, implementation, tracking progress, and communicating status and results to leadership
3. Provide technical leadership for the MSU Secure Research Enclave.
4. Provides Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) support when needed to assist junior team members
5. Provide architectural direction for the Secure Research Enclave
6. Manage all virtual desktop systems and devices to maintain security and patch compliance
7. Oversee the management of end point group policy design and maintenance.
8. Provide technical mentorship and coaching to less experienced team members.
9. Ensures that the MSU Secure Research Enclave maintains compliance with security standards such as NIST SP 800-171 and Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification Level 2
10. Assists in developing policies, procedures, and secure configurations to support compliance with federal cybersecurity requirements such as NIST SP 800-171 and CMMC Level 2
11. Work with various stakeholders around campus including researchers, ITS, and administrators to ensure a seamless and high level of support to the research community
12. Develops, documents, and revises system design procedures, test procedures, and quality standards
13. Track and document system problems, changes, and problem resolutions
14. Educate non-technical users on the MSU Secure Research Enclave
15. Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility:
Full supervisory responsibility for other employees is a major responsibility and includes training, evaluating, and making or recommending pay, promotion, or other employment decisions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems
Five years' experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities.

An equivalent combination of related education and related experience may be considered for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Familiarity with NIST controls and or Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification
2. Experience with VMware products and technologies
3. Familiarity with Cloud Solutions like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure
4. Previous management experience
5. VMware Certified Professional
6. Security +

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Hardware administration experience on enterprise equipment such as Dell, HP and Cisco server hardware
2. Good analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot systems problems
3. Basic networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, etc.…).
4. Understanding of virtualization and hyperconverged infrastructure environments.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. No or very limited physical effort required.
2. No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
3. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
