The Department of Agricultural & Biological Engineering at Mississippi State University invites applications for a tenure track, 9-month, assistant or associate professor position in the area of agricultural and biosystems engineering. Candidates with strengths in sensing, analytics, and/or robotics, particularly with a view to autonomous systems for precision agriculture, are preferred. The Department of Agricultural & Biological Engineering has 18 on-campus faculty and several affiliate and adjunct faculty off-campus within research centers and other organizations who are engaged in teaching, research, and extension. The department is co-administered by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the Bagley College of Engineering and offers undergraduate (B.S.) and graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) degrees in three distinct program areas: Biosystems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Agricultural Engineering Technology and Business. Focused on agriculture, natural resources, and medicine, our collegial group of professors strives to lead in making the world a better place through engineering and technology for human well-being. Within our three academic programs, the department has over 400 undergraduate students and about 40 graduate students. The J. Charles Lee Agricultural and Biological Engineering Building, which opened in 2008, includes state-of-the-art instructional and research facilities including labs for mechatronic design, fabrication, and testing; precision agriculture; and environmental and agricultural simulation or modeling studies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Candidates will be expected to teach in the Biosystems Engineering (BE) and Agricultural Engineering Technology and Business (AETB) curricula, conduct research, and advise undergraduate and graduate students. They must establish a strong record of research, teaching, and service.
A Ph.D. in Agricultural, Biosystems, or Biological Engineering or equivalent in a closely related discipline, as well as excellent verbal and writing skills, are required. Applicants must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence, scholarly production, and grantsmanship and should have the ability to conduct multi-disciplinary collaborative research.
