Position Function:

Assists in the oversight of the operation of the farm unit and provides routine maintenance to equipment, facilities, and land at Brown Loam Branch Experiment Station, with the expectation of assisting at other branch stations, as needed. May be responsible for training, assisting or assigning tasks to others.

Employees hired into Intermittent positions are limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year.

Salary Grade:  11

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assists in supervision of intermittent employees for farm operation, equipment, and shop maintenance.
2. Operates various farm equipment to perform various farm operations.
3. Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs to farm equipment.
4. Assists with purchasing of repair and replacement parts, maintenance supplies, etc.
5. Maintain appropriate inventory and maintenance records.
6. Assists with farm records and facilities upkeep and general maintenance.
7. Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or GED.
2. Three years experience in a general farm work setting.
3. Valid driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

*Knowledge of general agriculture operations and/or animal husbandry (if applicable).
*May be responsible for training, assisting or assigning tasks to others.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Regularly involves lifting, bending or other physical exertion. Often exposed to one or more elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc., with one often to the point of being objectionable.

Routine deadlines; usually sufficient lead time; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor.

Job frequently requires standing, walking, reaching, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Job occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, and lifting more than 100 pounds.
