The MS Veterinary Research and Diagnostic Lab (MVRDL) in Pearl is looking for student workers to hire as Intermittent Employees. The MVRDL is an off-campus unit of the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine located in Pearl, MS.

Employees hired into Intermittent positions are limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year.

Salary Grade:  UC

For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Both the Microbiology Section and Virology Sections are looking for student intermittent workers.

The microbiology position(s) will be ongoing, starting as soon as possible and continuing throughout the spring semester and possibly longer. This position would work up on average 20 hours per week on a pre-set mutually agreed upon schedule.

The microbiology position(s) will offer experience in setting up daily samples, gaining knowledge and insight into veterinary bacteriology, and working in an accredited lab setting following written SOPs.

The Virology positions will be dedicated to trimming tissue for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) testing. These CWD trimming positions are shorter term. Students could begin working in November through the beginning of Holiday break as their academic schedule permits. During the holiday break period Dec 10 – Jan 9, individuals can work up to 28 hours per week. During the first two months of the spring semester, students can work as their academic schedule permit.

The CWD trimmers will work under a biosafety cabinet, trimming white deer lymph nodes for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) testing. Each trimmer will be trained in basic lab safety procedures and trimming protocols for CWD sample preparation.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school grad. College credits in medical or veterinary laboratory technologies plus basic biological coursework.
