Position Function:

The successful candidate will be responsible for sample preparation for analysis of trace elements in calcified structures of fish. Coordination on submission of samples to an analytical laboratory, possible travel, and instrument operation to analyze trace elements in samples at an analytical laboratory. Data management, data analysis, data synthesis, and report writing. Candidate will interact and coordinate with multiple state and federal agencies to coordinate monitoring data. Successful candidate will develop a data management system with many opportunities for publication.

Salary Grade:  11

Department Profile:

Mississippi State University is a top-ranked research institution and the Department of Wildlife,
Fisheries and Aquaculture (WFA) has a strong applied focus in wildlife conservation and management. The 35-member faculty within the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Aquaculture leads one of the most productive research programs in the Division of Agriculture , Forestry and Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University. The department is well-known for its highly collegial and interdisciplinary faculty, post-doctoral fellows, research and extension associates that help make the department one of the premier institutions for applied wildlife and fisheries science in the nation. As one of the fastest growing undergraduate programs in the region, our 300 undergraduate students concentrate in wildlife agriculture science, human-wildlife interactions, conservation biology, wildlife veterinary medicine, conservation law enforcement, and wildlife, fisheries and aquaculture science. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Sample preparation for analysis of trace elements in calcified structures of fish. Coordination on submission of samples to an analytical laboratory, possible travel, and instrument operation to analyze trace elements in samples at an analytical laboratory. Data management, data analysis, data synthesis, and report writing.

Minimum Qualifications:

B.S. with focus in one of the following: aquatic species biology, fish biology, conservation biology, geosciences, or geochemistry.

Preferred Qualifications:

Operational knowledge of fisheries biology, geochemistry, microchemistry analysis, and statistical analysis.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of and experience with fisheries biology and statistical analyses

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Ability to perform routine office, interact with stakeholders, participate in face-to-face meetings and web meetings. Some travel to locations within the region well be required to meet with stakeholders.
