The Instructional Technology Specialist is a position under the administrative supervision of the Technology and Innovation Director in the MaxxSouth Digital Media Center, located in Mitchell Memorial Library. This position is responsible for leading the unit’s instructional programs that covers workshops and tutorials on a variety of software including—but not limited to—graphic design, desktop publishing, office productivity, and audio and video production.

Salary Grade:  13

Department Profile:

The Mississippi State University Library system is comprised of six libraries that include the Mitchell Memorial Library, Bob and Kathy Luke Architecture, Art and Design Library, College of Veterinary Medicine Library, Phil Hardin Foundation Libraries on the Meridian Campus, and Gertrude C. Ford Foundation Library in Jackson, MS. The Mitchell Memorial Library houses the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library and the Frank and Virginia Williams Collection of Lincolniana. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•Develops workshops/webinars and instructional material on software including—but not limited to—graphic design, desktop publishing, office productivity, and audio and video production.
• Provides training and support on current and new technologies to faculty, staff and students through tutorials, consultations, group activities or workshop instruction.
• Assesses the needs for professional development in digital literacy for faculty, staff, and students.
• Works collaboratively with campus constituencies and contributes to the development of strategies and programs in support of digital literacy projects.
• Consults with faculty and staff on technology integration in the classroom.
• Tests functions of specific technology tools and develops documentation on effective practices, job aids, and workarounds.
• Acts as point of contact for software assistance and answers questions by email, phone, walk-ins, appointments, and consultations.
• Evaluates, tests, and recommends new software and technology.
• Assists with the daily functions of the DMC and the MSU Libraries
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

B.S./B.A degree in Technology, Communication, Education or other related field, with strong demonstrable knowledge of current technology and software applications and their use in an academic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree in Instructional Technology, Communication, Education or related field with specialization related to the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Must possess strong skills in computer technology, software, communication, instruction, management and organization.
• Ability to relate successfully with faculty members and students of diverse backgrounds and instructional responsibilities.
• Ability to develop workshops and tutorials that address various learning and teaching styles.
• Strong interpersonal communication, employee management and presentation skills.
• Competency in graphic design, desktop publishing, office productivity, and audio and video production software including the Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft 365.
• Familiarity with both Windows and Mac operating systems.
• Ability to master new materials and continually improve teaching skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Ability to balance quality and productivity.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
