Web-based decision support tools that provide rapidly organized data and emphasize ease of use are becoming important to informed decision making. These tools require a mix of skillsets in full stack web development, computer programming, geospatial information systems, and topical expertise. We are seeking a full stack web developer to develop a geospatial web application to provide decision support for farmland conservation. This is a collaborative work involving large team of professionals in academia and federal government, and private farmers to develop the new Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) Menu tool, which is intended to empower landowner decisions regarding CRP practices on their property. This will be a 2-year study that will involve production of a web-based decision support system in the CRP Menu Tool that has both spatial and non-spatial components (see minimum qualifications section). This position will be based out of the Geosystems Research Institute in collaboration with the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Aquaculture at Mississippi State University, but will engage with a diverse team that includes experts in Farm Bill conservation, decision support modeling, and spatial web development. Through these collaborations, the full stack developer will have the opportunity to develop a large and well-connected professional network to take into their future career. The position will require good interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to develop a strong skillset in full stack and spatial database development, along with the ability to work and think independently. The position will also require effective communication skills. This work will be directly used to develop of the web-based CRP Menu tool, which is intended to be available regionally/nationally to farmers and support personnel.

Duration of the project is two years.

Salary Grade:  16

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Interact with researchers and stakeholders to determine specifications for new software applications or software changes, work with other team members, and develop solid software solutions.
2. Contribute to large-scale geographic spatial project in support of CRP Menu project
3. Engage in code and design reviews to ensure consistency and quality.
4. Be responsible for features all the way from initial concepts to production deployment at all levels (Front end, backend and database).
5. Maintain and modify existing web applications.
6. Support CRP Menu project goals and objectives, policies, and procedures.
7. Perform other duties as may be required by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in computer science, mathematics or related field. Must have 4 years of experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Computer Science Mathematics or related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1) Proficient in Javascript, Node.js, flask, Angular or React.
2) Experience or knowledge with ESRI REST, JavaScript APIs
3) Expertise using GIT and managing repositories
4) Knowledge of the value of farmland conservation
5) Positive attitude
6) Effective communication at all levels of technical understanding.
7) Demonstrated leadership skills
8) Excellent written and oral communication skills
9) Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
10) Ability to develop geospatial web application (both front end and back end).
11) Experience in Geographic Information Systems.
12) Have a strong background in geospatial webtool development
13) Demonstrated proficiency in programming languages & frameworks like Javascript, Python, Angular or React
