To assist in academic advising and oversee the maintenance of academic records for a department.

Salary Grade:  13

Department Profile:

The Department of Building Construction Science in the College of Architecture, Art, and Design utilizes a core curriculum of eight different six-credit, project based studios that integrate multiple construction content areas coordinated to advance integrated design/construction education. Through its innovative approach to interdisciplinary education in the environment, the Building Construction Science Program produces collaborative-minded construction professionals - critical thinkers who rigorously engage new challenges in the rapidly changing construction and building environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Advise Building Construction Science students.
2. Provide information to undergraduate students regarding degree requirements and advise
appropriately about academic deficiencies.
3. Provide support and referrals for students with academic, mental, or behavioral
challenges.
4. Conducts registration for all first-time students. Requires full knowledge of admission
process and academic program requirements.
5. Assists with orientation, preregistration, and registration procedures.
6. Provide departmental tours to prospective and new students.
7. Organize recruiting materials and regional recruiting visits.
8. Confers with department head relative to academic records, credits,
policy, and program requirements.
9. Evaluates transcripts from other educational institutions to determine which courses meet
requirements for specific curricula.
10. Validate completion of degree requirements for graduating seniors. Answers email inquiries
sent by prospective and new students.
11. Process student forms including change of major, class overrides, and add/drop.
12. Assist the department head in class scheduling, and scholarships.
13. Assist the department head in communication with the registrar, faculty, and students.
14. Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with one year of experience in academic records or related field.

Substitutions allowed:

Any equivalent combination of related experience and/or education approved by the Department of Human Resources Management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Ability to communicate and relate to students and university personnel.
2. Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs.
3. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills required.
4. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
5. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
2. No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
3. No or very limited physical effort is required.
