Performs graphic design, layout, and other art-related duties pertaining to the university’s key internal and external publications/communications.

Serves as primary contact with clients.

Reports to Senior Associate Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Implements designs and creative direction of publications and other materials for campus clients including but not limited to logos, stationary, brochures, direct mail, print ads, posters, fliers, newsletters, and electronic communications.
2. Collaborates with other graphic designers and Office of Public Affairs colleagues, including photographers and copy editors to achieve consistency in design and adhere to the university’s visual identity standards.
3. Designs high-quality publications that meet client vision/needs, but also adhere to the strategic communication direction and branding of the university.
4. Manages multiple jobs and status updates for design requests through the office’s project management system, meets deadlines, completes work in a timely manner, and packages final files thoroughly for digital archiving.
5. Coordinates print jobs with printing vendors. This includes coordination, job estimating, file preparation, packaging, and shipping of files and proofs, and communicating with clients about delivery and vendor invoices.
6. Fosters and works within a positive, creative environment that is responsive to needs of university-wide clients and in-house requests from the Office of Public Affairs.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree Graphic Design or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

o One year of experience in electronic publication design and layout required.
o Strong ability to work in a collaborative team environment and have good interpersonal and customer service skills.
o Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and set and meet deadlines.
o Must have ability to develop and complete projects in a timely manner.
o Must have experience using Abode Creative Suite.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
o Proficiency in publications design systems and software, including InDesign, Illustrator, and PhotoShop, and knowledge of printing and production methods.
o Knowledge of and ability to use a range of methods, techniques, and equipment/software.
o Proficient in graphic layout and photographic requirements/procedures.
o Skills to create illustrations, hand drawn and/or computerized.
o Ability to develop print specifications; analyze and interpret graphic requirements.
o Knowledge of printing procedures and requirements.
o Strong skills in communicating effectively with clients, co-workers, and the university community.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Physical Requirements:
o Flexibility to work beyond regular work hours as needed.
o No unusual physical requirements.
o Nature and volume of work varies; meeting deadlines is essential; can involve occasional conflict resolution with clients.
o Comfortable work environment, with job requiring walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, keyboard typing, handling objects with hands.
