This position is intended for youth with an interest in agriculture, natural resources, and related fields. The employee will gain practical experience through working closely with professionals in a scientific discipline.

This position will be located at one the following stations: Central Mississippi Research and Extension Center located in Raymond, MS, Brown Loam Branch Experiment Station, Raymond, MS, or Truck Crops Branch Experiment Station in Crystal Springs, MS.

Employees hired into Intermittent positions are limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year.

Salary Grade:  UC

Department Profile:

The Central Mississippi Research and Extension Center (CMREC) is one of four Research and Extension Centers in the MSU System and is located in Raymond, MS. This position will be located at CMREC, or possibly at one of two other Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station (MAFES) Branch Experiment Stations administratively associated with CMREC. The other stations are Brown Loam Branch Experiment Station in Raymond, MS, and Truck Crops Branch Experiment Station in Crystal Springs, MS.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The employee will assist research and Extension activities as directed by the supervisor. Tasks may include but are not limited to:

· Conducting and maintaining experiments in field, greenhouse, and laboratory settings;

· Collecting and processing samples;

· Analyzing data and preparing presentations;

· Supporting Extension events and developing multimedia resources;

· Operating and managing equipment and supplies used in research experiments and Extension programs; and

· Performing other relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Applicants must be between ages 16-25; if under 18, written permission from school administration (if during school hours) and from a parent/guardian is required.

· Applicants must consistently follow instructions, work responsibly, and be trustworthy.

· Applicants must be interested in agriculture, natural resources, and related fields.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to follow instructions.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

The specific work schedule will depend on the age of the employee, the time of year (during/outside school year), and whether this employment will be part of a work-based learning program at a school/college. The employee will be limited to working no more than 720 hours per fiscal year.

The employee will work in non-hazardous conditions. Physical requirements will vary by supervisor.
