The College of Veterinary Medicine, Mississippi State University, invites applications for a Resident in Large Animal Internal Medicine to work primarily in the food animal service. This position is housed in the Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine.
Salary Grade: 12

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include service in the Animal Heath Center under the supervision of four ACVIM diplomates. The resident will spend approximately 75% in food Animal and 25% time in equine. This position also includes emergency duty for in-house patients and ambulatory (field) emergency for farm animals and horses. The resident will oversee veterinary students in case management.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for clinical service. The caseload is a blend of primary care and referral cases, largely composed of beef cattle and small ruminants. The equine caseload is largely western pleasure and performance.
Building plans for a new food animal hospital and outpatient facility are being finalized. This facility will enhance animal flow and will allow outpatient and inpatient services to be conducted simultaneously. It will also serve as a base for the Center for Rural Veterinary Practice with space for student teaching laboratories and learning.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include a DVM or equivalent and completion of a large animal internship. Collegiality and excellent communication skills are required. The ability to do sustained physical activity associated with large animal practice is required, as is a valid drivers license. Attainment of a regular veterinary license in Mississippi is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent telephone and email communication skills, especially related to client service.
Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of doctors, staff and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
