The College of Veterinary Medicine, Mississippi State University, invites applications for a combined equine and farm animal intern.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position will work under faculty in the of the farm animal service and the equine medicine and surgery services. The intern is expected to rotate on emergency duty equally with the equine house officers and the farm animal house officers and will be heavily focused on clinical care. Teaching veterinary and veterinary technology students is accomplished within the course of clinical service.
• 50% appointment to the Equine Service in 4-6 week blocks. Time will be divide between the equine medicine and surgery service with direct supervision and support of 1 of 2 Diplomates of Veterinary Internal Medicine and 1 of 4 Diplomates of Veterinary Surgery at any given time.
o Equal house officers for Emergency Duty, receiving all surgical and medical emergency patients during the equine rotation.
• 50% appointment to the Farm Animal Service in 4-6 week blocks. Time will be divide between farm animal medicine, theriogenology, and ambulatory with direct supervision and support of 1 of 2 Diplomates of Veterinary Internal Medicine and 1 of 3 Diplomates of Veterinary Theriogeniology at any given time.
o Equal rotation with the farm animal house officers during the farm animal rotations for Emergency Duty, receiving all in hospital emergency patients and ambulatory calls.
• Participation in weekly Journal Club for Internal Medicine and Surgical Journal Club when assigned to those services for the week.
• Welcome participation in research collaboration with small clinical projects sponsored by the ORGS House Officer Grant Program.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include a DVM from a College accredited by the AVMA COE and eligibility for veterinary licensure in Mississippi. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. This position requires ability to conduct vigorous physical activity. Ideal candidates for this position are those wishing to pursue large animal practice or large animal specialization.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent telephone and email communication skills, especially related to client service.
Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of doctors, staff and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
