Position Function:

To perform clerical and related duties in making appointments. Will receive and direct patients to proper department and provider source. Will cross train into patient reception to include data entry to medical practice system. Will also require training in check out procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is intermittent and will be used on an as-needed basis only (to help cover other staffing shortages).
The following examples are intended as illustrations only of the various types of duties assigned in positions allocated to this classification. The absence of specific statements of duties does not exclude those tasks from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment of the position.
1. Make appointments and assign patients to appropriate provider based upon clinical criteria and insurance status.
2. Receive patients and direct them to proper department.
3. Set up files and medical records.
4. File and retrieve records and reports.
5. Assist in explaining medical charges and making collections as needed.
6. Operate various office machines.
7. Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. One year of clerical experience.
3. Computer applications experience.
4. Customer service experience.
Any equivalent combination of related experience and/or education approved by the Department of Human Resources Management

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Education or experience beyond the minimum requirements with special consideration to applicants with experience in a medical environment.
2. Previous experience with patient appointment scheduling and appointment system management and/or medical records background.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Experience with computers.
2. Telephone skills.
3. Customer service skills.
4. Ability to multi-task.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

•No or very limited physical effort required.
•No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
•Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
•No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
