A post-doctoral position is available in the Department of Basic Sciences at College of Veterinary Medicine, Mississippi State University (CVM-MSU).
Salary Grade: UC

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The postdoc will join an NIH-funded project to unravel how Listeria monocytogens pathogenicity is linked mechanistically to nutrient limitation. In particular, we are interested in understanding how the host immune response and the nutritive properties of host tissues guide Listeria behavior. The study will utilize 13C-perturbation techniques for analysis of the glucose incorporation and metabolism during replication of Listeria in macrophages. The projects will make use of molecular and biochemical approaches, RNA-Seq, cutting edge small animal imaging techniques, as well as traditional in vivo animal models of infection.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in Molecular Biology, Immunology, or relevant field.
Ideal candidates should have some knowledge of molecular biological techniques, such as RNA/DNA/protein extraction, gene deletion, and real-time PCR.
Strong interest in conducting research in the topics described.
Preference will be given to individuals with experience with mouse models of infection and/or mammalian cell culture.
A strong track record in peer-reviewed journals.
Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with other lab members as a team.
