This project focuses on the utilization of data derived from unmanned systems to assess vegetation and water quality management issues in natural areas. The Research Scientist is expected to engage and work individually or as part of a team with other scientists and stakeholders. The role of the Research Scientist will be to assist with grant writing, experimental design, data collection and analysis related to research efforts, and assist with data dissemination.

Salary Grade:  15

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Work as part of an interdisciplinary team or individually to develop study questions that examine geographic and temporal variations of vegetation in natural areas
• Identify statistical approaches to best examine research questions with collaborating scientists
• Participate in oral and written communications, as needed, to interface with the participating scientists and/or stakeholders to obtain clarity in requirements and data dissemination
• Participate in proposal development
• Disseminate research results via various venues, including conference presentations, conference publications, and archival journal articles
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

• PhD in Biology or related field
• Ability to identify statistical approaches to best examine research questions with collaborating scientists
• Demonstrated ability in publishing results in peer-reviewed literature

Preferred Qualifications:

• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work individually or collaboratively in a team environment
• Ability to implement proper experimental design and analysis protocols for individual and team research

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Have a strong background in ecology and biology
• Work well in a collaborative team environment or individually
• Desire to work with a range of datasets and diverse applications (wetland, aquatic, and/or marine environments)
• Have experience with image analysis techniques
