Implement social media strategy for the department within the University’s marketing/branding guidelines and visual identity standards. Produce content (including stories, photography, graphics and videos) for all social media platforms and manage metrics. Serve as a resource for departmental training on social media. Optimize day-to-day social media output.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist the Marketing team with the overall promotion of MS State Online and enhancing the online student experience on social media.
2. Develop and execute social media strategy for assigned marketing channels, focused primarily on the publishing of digital content on social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok) and online.msstate.edu
3. Write and produce (or collaborate with writers) clear, compelling communications and stories for publication on the department’s website, email campaigns, newsletters and social media outlets to engage various audiences such as current and prospective students, parents, and other university stakeholders. Use sound editorial judgment to make content decisions that shape public perception and develop community support.
4. This position will, in part, supervise social media student intern(s).
5. Collaborate and work in conjunction with Tech, Enrollment, and Marketing teams to ideate, execute and publish creative social media content for offered programs.
6. Work with the graphic designer to create materials for social media channels
7. Work with the website development team to ensure social media tools are kept up to date
8. Research and implement search engine optimization, and recommend changes to website architecture, content, linking, and other factors to improve SEO promotions for target keywords
9. Develop a content marketing plan and editorial calendar,
10. Monitor social media campaigns and analyze web traffic from the online community using key performance indicators (KPIs).
11. Find new marketing and outreach opportunities to push brand image and products.
12. Provide training as needed to departmental staff on best practices for creating, managing, monitoring, and developing content for social media channels
13. Establish and monitor benchmarks for measuring the impact of social media efforts, and report analytics on the effectiveness of such efforts. Benchmark against competitors and make recommendations for improvements. Perform ongoing keyword discovery, expansion and optimization
14. Assist the Marketing Coordinator and Communications Coordinator in formulating social media campaigns to generate leads for academic programs. Including paid social media campaigns.
15. Manage alongside the Marketing Coordinator the creative video department to ensure all projects are moving from concept to production to completion effectively and efficiently.
16. Lead creative video team in driving strategy and content calendars to produce videos and digital elements for internal and external promotional efforts.
17. Perform related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Public Relations, English, or Journalism
2 Years Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Public Relations, English or Journalism required. Minimum two years of communications experience required. Strong knowledge of all social media platforms. Experience in photography and video production required. Experience with public relations preferred. Ability to execute projects under minimal supervision and work effectively and cooperatively with a wide range of internal and external audiences. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Strong analytical and organization skills, and the ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments required. Ability to work independently on various projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Proven knowledge of and experience using appropriate technologies. Advanced computer skills and technical ability are required.
2. Excellent and engaging written and verbal communication skills that aid in finding original content for the university’s social media platforms. Also, ability to creatively produce and package content, including writing creatively, is required.
3. Proven time management skills, multi-tasking, meeting deadlines and moving projects from inception to completion are required.
4. Proven ability to take quality photographs and shoot video for social media platforms is required.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. No unusual physical requirements.
2. Frequent - Externally imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one’s control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; irregular hours may be anticipated; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position.

4. Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 10 pounds
