The Transportation Auto Shop Manager is accountable for oversight of a proficient and qualified staff of technicians who perform accurate, proficient repairs for University vehicles, providing consistent high-level service for customer satisfaction. The Shop Manager has responsibility for the automotive shop inventory; ordering of supplies necessary for repairs and generates monthly reporting that measures the fiscal status of the shop while maintaining accurate records of all transactions for proficiency in meeting University policies and procedures as well as all internal and external audit guidelines. While not responsible for daily auto repairs, the Manager should have a working knowledge of general mechanic duties and processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Maintains consistent stock of inventory, ordering new stock up to pre-authorized limit as inventory dwindles.
2. Establishes and maintains backup source for high-demand items.
3. Assesses inventory reports and order patterns to identify items in need of automatic, recurring delivery.
4. Provides inventory reports to pertinent personnel horizontally and laterally.
5. Develops and maintains good working relationships with vendors.
6. Maintains accurate daily records of goods received and repairs made.
7. Manages and maintains inventory system; facilitates upgrades to related database and/or software.
8. Conducts frequent spot and partial audits of physical inventory.
9. Assists with periodic (at least annual) physical inventory audits.
10. Operates shop equipment when necessary.
11. Provides management of all shop employees, including the distribution of repair and maintenance orders.
12. Engage in University and community services for collaboration in maintaining best practices for automotive shop operations.
13. Actively participate in recruiting, placement, training and development of automotive personnel.
14. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or GED with a focus in Automotive Trade school

Experience (yrs.) Five years’ experience in progressive work experience and service as supervisor/manager in automotive repair business performing duties similar to job description.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 10 years of progressive work experience in automotive shop for repairs, part tracking, and oversight of proficiency of repair work.
• Valid Mississippi Drivers’ License.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships and communicate with diverse constituency.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to efficiently operate and maintain a maintenance shop management software system.
• Skilled in conflict management for problem resolution in amicable manner for all stakeholders.
• Ability to exhibit flexibility, willingness to learn, ability to adapt to change, and utilize current technology skills, while providing the highest level of service and response.
• Ability to design, communicate, and implement regulations, codes, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Knowledge of automotive shop operations and issues involved maintaining a fleet vehicles.
• Excellent communication skills—oral, written, and group presentation.
• Knowledge and experience in customer services-related technology.
• Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, scheduling

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• All work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.
• Requires lifting of shop hand tools, equipment and records up to 50 pounds.
• Frequent- External imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one's control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; involves conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis.
• Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
