Position Function:
The Department of Geosciences at Mississippi State University invites applications for a nine-month non-tenure-track teaching professor position in meteorology at the rank of assistant professor with an anticipated start date of August 16th, 2024. We seek an energetic and enthusiastic meteorology/climate teacher who is able to teach upper-level and graduate-level meteorology courses within our distance education programs. Teaching face-to-face meteorology courses are also possible, but the main priority will be online teaching.

For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.
Department Profile:
The Department of Geosciences currently has 20 tenured and tenure-track faculty, six clinical professors, and five full-time instructors. Within the department, there are four areas of disciplinary emphasis: Geology, Geography, Geospatial Science, and Atmospheric Science which offer numerous opportunities for transdisciplinary collaboration focused on the global climate system. The department is closely aligned with a number of MSU research centers including the Geosystems Research Institute (www.gri.msstate.edu), the High Performance Computing Collaboratory (https://www.hpc.msstate.edu/computing/hpc.php) and the Northern Gulf Institute (www.ngi.msstate.edu). Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The position requires a candidate with knowledge in the field of meteorology. Areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to, dynamic meteorology, satellite and radar meteorology, numerical weather prediction, and tropical meteorology. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach courses for the distance learning program that supports the Broadcast and Operational Meteorology Program (BOMP), Applied Meteorology Program (AMP), and the Environmental Geosciences Programs (ENGS). Depending on course demand and enrollment, there is potential for summer teaching. However, summer funding is optional and not guaranteed.

Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Geosciences, Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to teach quantitative meteorology courses through distance learning.
