Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The postdoctoral researcher will participate as a team member interacting with researchers/scientists from other NSPARC areas. A large part of this role involves developing the overall methodology for projects; recommending statistical methods; drafting proposals for extramural funding, research reports and briefs, and other publications; managing and analyzing data from multiple sources; applying business intelligence skills to transform large amount of data into useful information; working on multiple projects simultaneously; working effectively on multidisciplinary teams; meeting deadlines as agreed with our clients and partners; and performing other duties as assigned. Specific research activities are primarily driven by the center’s leadership and by sponsor needs, but opportunities abound for our applied researchers to cultivate independent research projects and develop personal research agendas.
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in an economics, sociology, or other social science discipline.
ABDs or degree pending considered (all but DISS):
No
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with statistical packages such as SAS, STATA, or Python is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Ability to thrive in a remote-work environment
• Interest in conducting applied research
• Ability to apply the principles of sociology, economics, and data science to transform academic research results into audience-appropriate technical reports or policy papers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail oriented.
• Ability to balance several research projects simultaneously.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
• No unusual physical requirements. Requires limited lifting of files and records and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.
• Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
• Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
