The Interfraternity Council (IFC) Coordinator of Fraternity & Sorority Life is responsible for advising the IFC Council and its member organizations. The coordinator is supervised by the Director of the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life and collaborates with other staff to provide guidance and support for the four governing councils and 37 fraternity and sorority chapters at MSU.

Salary Grade:  14

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Advises the officers and members of the IFC council. Attends regular meetings of the council and of the executive council.
2. Advises officers, advisors, and the individual sororities and/or fraternities of the council, which the coordinator advises. Meets regularly with chapter and advisors.
3. Advises council leaders and collaborates with appropriate state, regional, and national representatives in planning and overseeing the recruitment/intake process for the council they advise.
4. Acts as a liaison for the University and the state, regional, and inter/national representatives of the council they advise.
5. Trains and oversees chapter leaders in maintaining membership and academic records of member organizations of the council, which they advise.
6. Collaborates with Fraternity and Sorority Life staff in advising council leaders in planning and coordinating leadership training, including the annual retreat, semester educational sessions, Greek Week events, etc.
7. Teams with other MSU offices/departments, e.g., MSU Police and Dean of Students, and chapter officers and advisors in overseeing planning and coordination of major events of member chapters of the council, e.g., recruitment/intake, visibility weeks and new member presentations, and major philanthropic and social events.
8. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree
Student Affairs, Business, or related discipline
Experience (yrs.) 1 year
Leadership and duties and responsibilities of job description

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Master’s degree in student development, higher education, educational leadership, or related discipline.
2. Three years leadership experience with a fraternal organization.
3. One year of work experience advising college governing councils or working for an international fraternity/sorority on full time basis or nation/regional officer.
4. Experience in planning and managing an organizational/departmental budget.

1. Working knowledge of fraternal/sorority protocol.
2. Demonstrated problem solving skills to create solutions and manage conflict.
3. Ability to work in a team environment while fostering respect to co-workers.
4. Highly developed analytical skills with attention to detail.
5. Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively (verbal and written).
6. Ability to coordinate priorities and meet multiple daily deadlines.
7. Ability to make compile data, create and make meaningful presentations to large groups.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. Work is performed primarily in a temperature controlled indoor facility.
2. Nature of work requires external imposed deadlines, may be on short notice with shifts in priority; accountability for success on major projects or areas of operation.
3. Job frequently requires sitting, reaching, talking, and hearing.
4. Job occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling/crouching/ crawling, handling objects with hands, and lifting 25 pounds.
