This project will focus on developing enterprise budgets for various US aquaculture sectors such as catfish, oysters, crayfish, tilapia, baitfish, and other sectors. Additionally, the project also will quantify the economic contribution of US aquaculture sector along with identifying supply chain functions and market spread. Other specific works include development of financial planning models for domestic aquaculture sectors and identifying economic risk factors.

Salary Grade:  UC

This position is located at the Thad Cochran National Warmwater Aquaculture Center located within the Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville, MS.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will perform research duties assigned by the economist leading the project. The candidate will be responsible for the daily management of production data. These duties include managing primary dataset obtained from farms as well as third-party market data with utmost care to data confidentiality and privacy. Advanced data analytic skills in MATLAB, STATA, GAMS, SAS, or R will be preferred. The successful candidate should be willing and able to assist graduate students with their research work.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. degree in Agricultural Economics/Applied Economics. Ability to develop enterprise budgets is a primary qualification for this research work. Skills in econometric analysis are necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Ph.D. degree in Agricultural Economics/Applied Economics focusing on farm management
economics is preferred.
The successful candidate should be dependable and enjoy working on both production and market research data. She/he should have a keen interest in learning the scientific approach to stakeholder problems. The researcher must be able to develop effective working relationships with fellow scientists, research staff, students, and administrative staff at the Center. The applicant who has an interest or has demonstrated a productive research and publication record will be given preference.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Attention to detail and excellent record keeping.
• Self-motivated individual who can take direction, but does not require direction.
• Able to work in a collaborative environment on team-based research.
