A/V Systems Engineer is a position under administrative supervision of the Manager of Instructional Media Technology. Specific activities include support of A/V components and control systems in instructional and conference/huddle spaces in an enterprise environment; assistance with coordination and planning of enterprise level A/V projects; and digital signage support and integration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist in active support and maintenance of installed A/V components and control systems.
2. Monitor and evaluate systems for capacity planning and problem resolution and make recommendations to preempt and/or solve problems as indicated.
3. Assist with the management and support of MSU’s digital signage environment.
4. Evaluate, test, and recommend new A/V hardware and software.
5. Assist with enterprise scale projects as assigned.
6. Provide technical support to other ITS units and to the MSU community at large.
7. Meet regularly with other members of ITS to discuss current issues and future plans.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficiency in one or more high-level programming and/or scripting languages.
• Proficiency with supporting Crestron based A/V control systems and components.
• Experience with implementation, operation, and support of complex H.323 and SIP-based interactive video environments.
• Experience with digital signage system support and integration with enterprise systems.
• Experience with structured cabling systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Well-developed interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong written and verbal communications skills.
• Ability to plan and organize.
• Personal initiative.
• Familiarity with supporting complex IT and audio/visual systems.
• Familiarity with Ethernet and TCP/IP.
• Familiarity with network protocol analysis/interpretations.
• Familiarity with supporting Windows based computers in an enterprise environment.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
• Ability to visit construction sites and non-ADA accessible work areas is required.
• Job occasionally requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Vision requirements: ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
• Sitting: required to be able to sit for long periods of time, as typical days will involve sitting at computer consoles or sitting in meetings.
• Dexterity and visual acuity: required to be able to use computer screens and keyboards and manipulate small devices and parts.
• Hearing requirements: Ability to hear and respond to telephone conversations.
