Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Neurology/Neurosurgery (NNS) Residency at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine consists of advanced clinical training in medical and surgical aspects of canine and feline neurology. There will be opportunities for the residents to consult on neurologic cases in large animals and occasionally wildlife and exotic species.

The resident will work closely with the faculty neurologist, post residency clinical instructor, and another neurology/neurosurgery resident, interns, and the students on the NNS rotation in order to provide the highest quality of patient care.
All NNS residents will attend weekly rounds, including resident case rounds, neurology journal club and NNS topic rounds. To fulfill requirements of the ACVIM (Neurology),NNS residents will have specific rotations through both soft tissue and orthopedic surgery services in order to enhance their surgical training.

After-hours emergency neurosurgery duty will be shared among the NNS residents.

The NNS resident will be expected to contribute to didactic presentations within the college community, under faculty guidance, via student lectures, rounds presentations, and continuing education presentations. A minimum of one presentation (oral or poster) at a major veterinary conference (e.g., ACVIM Forum, ACVS Forum, SEVEN,VNS) Is a requirement of the residency program. A residency project with subsequent acceptance of at least one manuscript in a peer-reviewed journal (e.g., JAVMA, JVIM, Vet Surg) is also a requirement of the program. Pursuit of a master's degree Is very strongly encouraged with a program designed to enhance the candidate's board preparation and strengthen their overall academic and professional development. Opportunities for clinical and preclinical (bench) research abound at MSU-CVM. Continuation in the program on a year-to-year basis will be contingent upon an
acceptable level of performance by the NNS resident. After successful completion of the program, the NNS resident will be awarded a "Certificate of Residency". The NNS resident will be expected to attain board-certification in the specialty of Neurology (ACVIM) at the end of the residency program and will have completed qualifications for pursuing the certificate of training In neurosurgery.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a DVM or equivalent veterinary degree
and have completed one-year internship or equivalent
postgraduate clinical experience.
