The College of Veterinary Medicine, Mississippi State University, invites applications for a non-tenure clinical track assistant/associate/full professor position as a Poultry Virologist and Diagnostician. The position is in the Poultry Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (PRDL) section within the Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine.

Salary Grade:  UC

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be located at the Poultry Research and Diagnostic Laboratory in Pearl, MS, one of four laboratories in the AAVLD-accredited Mississippi Veterinary Research and Diagnostic Laboratory System (MVRDLS).

The major responsibility of this position is to support Mississippi’s commercial poultry industry by providing virology and necropsy diagnostic services and conducting applied poultry research to address the poultry industry’s concerns.

The incumbent will serve as leader of the poultry and mammalian virology laboratory sections and will oversee the vivarium area. Participation in the Master of Veterinary and Biomedical Science-Poultry Specialty program is also required including instruction of graduate courses, mentorship of Masters students/residents, and oversight of their clinical research projects.

Other responsibilities of this position on an as-needed basis include participation in the college’s teaching programs by lecturing veterinary students.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include a DVM (or equivalent veterinary degree) with post-graduate training and/or experience in classic and molecular poultry virology and avian pathology (necropsy), and experience in conducting research projects with birds. The ability to attain licensure (faculty or traditional licensure) in Mississippi is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Diplomate status in a veterinary specialty recognized by the AVMA’s American Board of Veterinary Specialties such as, the American College of Poultry Veterinarians (ACPV) or the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists (ACVM) is preferred. An advanced degree and experience in classic and molecular poultry virology is highly desirable.
