To perform a variety of diagnostic analyses and procedures on specimens from all animal species.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are examples of duties and are intended as illustrations of the various duties assigned in positions allocated to this classification. The absence of specific statements of duties does not exclude those tasks from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment of the position.
1. Perform diagnostic laboratory procedures on all animal species. Types of procedures include hematology, chemistry, blood gas analysis, coagulation, urinalysis, fecal analysis, bacteriology, parasitology, cytology, serology, and other laboratory procedures requiring a high degree of skill and training.
2. Prepare and test culture media, stains and reagents for isolation and identification of various microorganisms or cells.
3. Follow quality control and quality assurance procedures.
4. Maintain records of results and reagents according to quality assurance procedures.
5. Recommend equipment purchases.
6. Assist in trouble shooting and equipment maintenance.
7. Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors in Medical Technology (medical technologist) and certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.

Any equivalent combination of related experience and/or education approved by the Department of Human Resources Management.
