Position Function:
As Assistant Dean, this role takes a major role in academic and administrative leadership of the College of Education and reports directly to the Dean of the College of Education and functions as an official representative of the college through a variety of service activities. Duties include general administrative responsibility and supervision of activities relating to courses, programs, accreditation, personnel, and degrees that fall within the scope of the College of Education at Mississippi State University’s Starkville, Meridian, and online campuses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Ensure the quality and relevance of academic programs by assisting with development, implementation, and facilitation of educational programs and working with department heads, faculty, and staff to coordinate college-wide assessments and dissemination of results.
2. Assist department/division heads and coordinators with the development of data gathering and analysis strategies to address the assessment needs of the College, including the review and preparation of program and accreditation reports.
3. Support faculty in their teaching, research, and service roles. This may involve mentoring and facilitating professional development and mentoring opportunities.
4. Maintain a climate conducive to collaboration and high academic standards among faculty, staff, students, and appropriate academic departments and centers in the College.
5.Collaborate with faculty and staff in the College to maintain and review syllabi and assessments required by various credentialing and licensure bodies such as the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE).
6. Collaborate with department heads and faculty to assist and provide guidance for MDE and accreditation related issues such as annual reports, continuing accreditation issues, program reviews, accreditation files, and folios for academic programs reviewed by learned societies, to ensure compliance with accreditation standards and university policies.
7. Assist the Dean’s Office in the development of data gathering and analysis strategies for use in addressing the institutional research and other assessment needs of the College and in preparing related reports and self-studies.
8. Assist with student recruitment and facilitate student engagement and retention initiatives.
9. Address student concern and issues, including academic performance and conduct.
10. Work with department heads and faculty in the College (Starkville, Meridian, and online) to review schedules and grade reporting.
11. Serve on College committees and coordinate committee elections.
12. Assist in the development and implementation of the College’s strategic plan. This may include identifying priorities, setting goals, and monitoring progress.
13. Build and maintain relationships with educational partners, community organizations, and other stakeholders. This includes representing the college at events, developing partnerships, and promoting the College’s mission and programs.
14.Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
A PhD or EdD in a field of study related to or offered by the College of Education.
Obtained tenure at current institution or tenure eligible at Mississippi State.
Minimum of five years of full-time experience in a K-12 and/or higher education setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as an associate dean, assistant dean, or department head/chair.
Expertise in research and service.
Prior experience with and knowledge of Banner.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent administrative, organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills, including experience in supervision.
Thorough understanding of standards that regulate educator preparation programs and educator licensure.
Well-developed teamwork, verbal, and written communication skills.
Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
Demonstrated ability to manage/coordinate multiple tasks.
Independent self-starter with strong work ethic.
Evidence of leadership in K-12 and/or higher education.
Knowledge of theory and practice of educational assessment and evaluation.
Evidence of effective teaching in a K-12 and/or higher education setting.
Well-developed interpersonal, teamwork, verbal and written communication skills.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort
No unusual physical requirements. Requires limited lifting of files and records and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility. Frequent externally imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one's control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to position; involves conflict resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis.
Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
