Position Function:

The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing contractors and vendors on the installation of electronic safety and security systems on MSU buildings. The position requires knowledge of construction projects, access control, and video management systems.

Salary Grade:  15

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Reports to the Director of the Integrated Security Management Division.
• Works with the Office of Planning, Design, Construction, and Administration on new construction and renovation projects to define the access control and video surveillance scope in the project.
• Reviews plans and documents to verify the installation of access control and video surveillance systems according to policies and protocols.
• Provides on-site inspections, coordination, and observations of projects to ensure compliance with plans and/or specifications.
• Reviews and updates design and construction standards for the installation of access control and video surveillance systems.
• Oversees performance of contractors to verify installation of hardware and systems.
• Verifies construction schedules.
• Coordinates with Integrated Security Management staff the programming of software to meet project timelines.
• Manages floor plans and project updates in BIM software.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree
Focus: Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related area
Experience (yrs): 3-5 years managing construction projects, prior experience with access control and video management systems, and experience with building information management software.

Preferred Qualifications:

Qualification in excess of the minimum and/or experience in a security management environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong management skills.
• Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
• Excellent written and verbal skills.
• Project management skills such as time management, resource management, and project scheduling.
• Understanding of mechanical and electrical door hardware, access control, and video surveillance hardware.
• Experience with BIM software.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Externally imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one’s control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to the position; may involve conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis.
Job frequently requires sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and handling objects with hands.
Job occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
