The Assistant Director for Marketing & Communications facilitates and manages the comprehensive marketing and communications strategies for the Department of Housing and Residence Life.

Salary Grade:  15

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Develop and execute social media strategy for social media accounts, focused primarily on the publishing of digital content on social media platforms (i.e., Facebook, X, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, etc.) including assisting with content planning and creation for departmental accounts
2. Write and produce clear, compelling communications and stories for publication on the department’s website, email campaigns, newsletters, and social media outlets to engage various audiences.
3. Manage content on divisional website and assists departments with redesign processes and content.
4. Work with departments across the Department to develop communication plans and marketing strategies for program offerings.
5. Provide training, as needed, to departmental staff on best practices for creating, managing, monitoring, and developing content.
6. Assist in managing the job request system and the digital signage system.
7. Establish and monitor benchmarks for measuring the impact of social media efforts, report analytics, and make recommendations for improvements.
8. Manage resources, develop project priorities, and create plans for departmental marketing and communication activities.
9. Works closely with the Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Public Affairs on initiatives which includes but is not limited to, housing activities (housing tours with Orientation and Prospective student visits), Admissions live events, press releases, etc.
10. Works with other academic and non-academic units to achieve institutional goals and outcomes.
11. Ensures the Department of Housing & Residence Life’s mission, vision, and values.
12. Supervise the coordinator for marketing and communications including student ambassadors and some front office operations.
13. Serves in the on-call rotation with the 2nd level of full-time HRL staff.
14. Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Master's degree in business, marketing, or related areas, plus 5 years progressive experience.
2. Progressive supervision, leadership, and management of staff experience.
3. Crisis response management and diverse student and staff populations.
4. Knowledge of various software packages and project management systems (including Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, word processing, social media, Drupel website, and e-mail)
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Progressive supervision, leadership, and management of full-time staff experience.
2. Crisis response management, assessment, and diverse student and staff populations.
3. Advanced knowledge of various marketing and communications software processes.
4. Uses relevant student and adult development knowledge
5. Familiarity with Title IX, Clery, and other federal laws as related to students in higher education environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Demonstrated leadership evident in effective management.
2. Excellent communication and intrapersonal skills.
3. Knowledge and practice of skills related to sales and resource allocation.
4. Proficient knowledge of computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Suite).

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

1. Requires limited lifting of files and records; most work is performed indoors.
2. Frequent- Externally imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one’s control; interruptions influence priorities; deadlines and coordination of unrelated activities are key to the position; involves conflict-resolution or similar interactions involving emotional issues or stress regularly.
3. Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, use of hands.
4. Vision requirements include the ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
