The Department of Chemistry at Mississippi State University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track Instructor I or Assistant Teaching Professor to teach online and/or face-to-face courses in Chemistry. Primary job duties include course assignments, e.g., instruction of introductory chemistry courses in the general chemistry and possibly organic chemistry sequences. Additional undergraduate courses could be assigned based on applicant experience and interest. In addition, job duties may include supervision and training of graduate student teaching assistants. Successful applicants should have a MS or PH.D. for rank at Instructor I and must have a Ph.D. by the time of appointment for rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. Our Bulldog Department of Chemistry family of more than 120 dedicated and diverse personnel includes 30 faculty and staff, 90 students, and other associates hailing from more than 16 nations and 20+ states. We are a vibrant and multi-cultural leading academic unit in the College of Arts & Sciences.

In addition to serving the basic science and higher level chemistry curricula needs of nearly every major on campus including some 5000 non-majors, our department graduates an average of 18 Bachelor’s, 4 Master’s, and 10 Doctoral professionals in chemistry each year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

-Teach up to four undergraduate classes each semester in the Department of Chemistry.
-Participate in departmental activities as assigned.
- Demonstrate a high commitment to quality teaching.
-Possess the skills needed to organize and manage assigned courses.
-Work effectively with students and colleagues.
-Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in Chemistry or equivalent at time of appointment
-Experience teaching general chemistry courses

Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience teaching Organic Chemistry courses
-Experience managing teaching assistants

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

-Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
-Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to work with a diverse group of individuals.
-Fluent skills managing and operating a Learning Management System

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

-Work is performed in a classroom environment
