Position Function:

The Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine has an immediate opening for a tenure track faculty position in Small Animal Internal Medicine. Teaching responsibilities involve didactic teaching and clinical training of professional students, interns, residents, and graduate students. Service responsibilities involve clinical case management, rotating emergency duty, and consultation with private practitioners. Clinical duties in the Small Animal Medicine service will be shared with four other faculty members. The service currently has three residents enrolled in an ACVIM-approved three-year combined residency and thesis-driven master’s program. Participation in the college’s continuing education and clinical research program is strongly encouraged, as is the development of a specific area of clinical and research focus and expertise. External grant acquisition and supervision of postgraduate degree students is encouraged and supported, and initial funding is available to support the development of research initiatives.

Salary Grade:  UC

Minimum Qualifications:

DVM or equivalent degree. Ability to obtain licensure in the Mississippi.

Preferred Qualifications:

Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine is preferred, but residency-trained individuals eligible for final certification examination will also be considered. An advanced degree and experience in clinical research are desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent telephone and email communication skills, especially related to client service.
Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of doctors, staff and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
