The Brown Lab at Mississippi State University seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to support the PhyloFisher v2: Advancing Accuracy and Reproducibility in Deep Phylogenomics project funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. The position focuses on evolutionary genomics, high-performance computing, and software/database development for large-scale phylogenomic workflows. Applicants should have experience with next-generation sequencing data analysis, strong written/oral communication skills, and preferably expertise in phylogenomics and Python and R programming. Essential duties include those listed below. Perform large-scale analyses including phylogenomics, comparative genomics, and differential gene expression; curate orthologs and contribute to expanding PhyloFisher v2 (~400 eukaryotic and prokaryotic markers). Develop, optimize, and maintain PhyloFisher software/database components; implement efficient pipelines on HPC systems; carry out specialized computational tasks beyond the scope of departmental staff. Integrate genomic datasets to inform species concepts for targeted microbial eukaryote groups. Mentor undergraduate and graduate students; collaborate with an international team of investigators; contribute to manuscripts, documentation, and public releases of tools and datasets.

The Department of Chemistry at Mississippi State University is seeking a full-time 12-month instrument manager for our Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy facility (Research Scientist). The successful candidate will supervise the maintenance of assigned NMR instrumentation in the Chemistry department, as well as the training of users. Instruments include four existing NMR systems (300, 500, 600, and 800 MHz), a helium recovery system, and an X-band electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) system. The candidate will handle mail-in samples, billing, and work with remote users as part of their responsibilities. The successful candidate will also train students on basic NMR use, including a one-credit introductory class for new graduate students, as assigned. The successful candidate may be assigned to assist with managing other analytical research instrumentation based on their interests and expertise. Although an individual with a PhD in analytical chemistry/biomedical sciences is highly desired, candidates with a master’s degree and relevant experience are eligible to apply. Excellent organization, communication, and teamwork skills are a must.
