Position Function:

Assistant Professor in Criminology, using either qualitative or quantitative methods. The position requires research and teaching expertise on the criminal justice system or with criminal justice policy. Preference will be given to candidates who can also teach Statistics or Theory.

Salary Grade:  UC

For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Department Profile:

The Department has 22 faculty members, more than 400 undergraduate majors and 40 sociology graduate students. Programs offered include bachelor’s degrees in Applied Sociology, Criminology, Social Work, and Sociology. The Department also houses a master’s and PhD program in Sociology http://www.sociology.msstate.edu. The Department has strong ties to the African American Studies Program, Gender Studies Program, the Social Science Research Center, the National Strategic Planning & Analysis Research Center, and the Southern Rural Development Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The position requires active participation in research, on campus undergraduate and graduate teaching, and service responsibilities within the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of the Ph.D. in Sociology, or related discipline by time of hire is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Candidates should be dynamic educators and active researchers with teaching experience preferred. Candidates should have an interest in and ability to teach undergraduate and graduate statistics courses.
