Position Function:
The primary function of this position is to provide associate departmental and production leadership for the operation of the Mississippi State University Television Center (UTC), part of the Division of Strategic Communications that is administered by the MSU Vice President for Strategic Communications. The position is responsible for assisting in day-to-day management of personnel, budget, creative services, customer service, and execution of strategic objectives in support of the UTC’s university and outside clients. The position will also function as a production manager and senior video producer. The Associate Director serves on university and outside committees at the direction of the Director. This position reports administratively to the UTC Director.

Department Profile:
The University Television Center provides broadcast television production services to the Mississippi State University community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assist in supervision of UTC staff in daily activities including client interaction, project development, video production, graphics creation, technical and operations management, billing, and strategic planning.
2.Provide associate production leadership for center personnel.
3.Assist in center budget management, ensure proper cost accounting and billing procedures are in place and followed.
4.Work with the Director to maintain and enforce unit policy.
5.Assist in the development and coordination of UTC marketing to new and existing clients.
6.Provide leadership in developing efficient UTC production workflow.
7.Serve as source of creative and production expertise for the Center and university community.
8.Execute methods to improve center client satisfaction and retention.
9. Support the production needs of all TV Center productions.
10.Assist staff with troubleshooting, installations, setups for productions, and perform other functions as needed.
11.Work with production staff to maintain center stock footage archive.
12.Monitor and provide quality control of products and services offered by the center.
13.Provide for professional development and perform direct training of staff members in production areas as needed.
14.Work with the Operations and Engineering Manager to develop new opportunities for service.
15.Act as a production manager for general center operations, working with staff, student workers and interns to develop high-quality media productions within client budgets. Includes the establishment of consistent production workflow and system for long-term archival. Work with the Operations and Engineering Manager to resolve resource scheduling conflict issues and review resource usage reporting with the Operations and Engineering Manager as needed.
16.Serve as senior producer for the center, producing multimedia projects for university and external clients.
17.Provide concepts and produce major institutional video projects.
18.Provide associate leadership to the center in the areas of creative services, videography, editing, general production techniques, and multimedia content creation.
19.Provide guidance in creation of projects for distribution through traditional and new media outlets.
20.Participate in creation and execution of university new media content development and distribution.
21.Work with center clients to ensure production needs are met on time and on budget.
22.Serve as crewmember on large center productions.
23.Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications, Television Production, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ten years of experience in television production with five years of experience in production management and client interaction. Master’s degree in Mass Communication with additional coursework in business administration or equivalent. Must have demonstrated ability to train others in production methodology and fundamentals of video production. Must have demonstrated high level of proficiency in video production and client relations. Proficiencies in advanced television production systems, including video production switchers, camera jibs, video playback server operations, advanced lighting techniques preferred. Ability to understand and execute university policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have demonstrated skills in television production, marketing, client interaction, project management, and university budget policies. Must have a working knowledge of non-linear video and audio production systems, including, but not limited to Adobe Creative Suite and audio production workstations. Expertise in concept development, scriptwriting, lighting, and non-linear video editing is essential. Experience in providing multimedia content to traditional and new media distribution channels.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
• Occasional and/or light lifting required. Limited exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc., but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
• Work hours are unpredictable and may require including nights and weekends; frequent interruptions based on changing priorities; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor.
• Job frequently requires sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands.
Job occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
